Funding & Financial Transparency

The Global Nightjar Network is built and run by volunteers. We keep costs low, but there are still basic expenses that make our work possible, like website administration and small “tokens of gratitude” for conference speakers who donate their time and expertise. Looking ahead, our goal is to grow a modest small-grants program that can support community-led education, research, and conservation activities focused on nightjars. We’re still too grassroots to be a registered charity or formal non-profit, which limits the kinds of funding we can apply for and means we need to be thoughtful and transparent with our small pool of funds.

If you have an idea, or the means, to support a specific initiative, please get in touch. We are interested in working with partners to facilitate targeted support.

As one example, we’re currently collaborating with the Kshitij Foundation in Gujarat, India, to disburse a small grant supporting nightjar-related education or research.

Donations are administered by the Maine Natural History Observatory on behalf of the Global Nightjar Network. All proceeds of your donation will go to the Global Nightjar Network.

Our main sources of funding come from merchandise sales and donations, and as we develop, we will consider membership fees. We’re deeply grateful to the Maine Natural History Observatory, which kindly administers and holds donations on our behalf. Every donation, at any amount, helps us maintain a reliable home for the global nightjar community and take careful steps toward doing more.
